An Intel ad for a new generation of microprocessors depicting six black sprinters crouching before a white man has been dropped after it was widely denounced as racist.

The headline on the ad gloated: "Multiply computer performance and maximize the power of your employees."

In a statement on its website, Intel acknowledged that the ad was "culturally insensitive and insulting" and admitted, "We made a bad mistake."

In an Indian version of the ad, the white man had been replaced with an Indian.
