Dermatology And Plastic Surgery Most Competitive Fields

Dermatology and plastic surgery are the most competitive fields for medical residencies, according to a report by the Association of American Medical Colleges and the National Resident Matching Program.

 
Just 61 percent of those seeking residency in dermatology secured one in that field in 2007. By contrast almost everyone seeking residencies in internal medicine (98%) and family medicine (99%) was paired for a residency.

While an internist earns an average of $191,525, a dermatologist earns an average of $390,274, according to an annual survey conducted by the Medical Group Management Association.
