The Indian population in Australia doubled in the last six years, displacing Italians as the fourth largest immigrant group in the country.
Indians are the fastest growing ethnic group in Australia, rising from 110,563 in mid-2002 to 239,295 in mid-2008.

The British are the largest immigrant group in Australia with 1.166 million residents, constituting 6 per cent of the population, followed by New Zealanders with 494,579.
