India expects to register a 8.5 percent growth in the current 2010-2011 year and is aiming to touch double digits in 2010, according to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

The country officially anticipates a growth rate of 9 percent in 2011-2012, but Mukherjee told a Washington, D.C. audience, “My target is to make it a year of double digit growth.”

“Confidence in the Indian economy and its potential is well recognized and our private sector is very vibrant and dynamic.”
