Japan, India Plan Free Trade Agreement

Japan and India plan to sign a free trade pact that will scrap tariffs on 94 percent of traded goods over the next decade.

The agreement will be signed in October during Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Japan.

Japan’s exports to India — principally vehicles and electronics — totaled $7.8 billion in 2009. Its imports from India totaled $4.7 billion.
