Air India Seeks To Halve Workforce

India's state-owned carrier Air India, facing almost $800 million in loses this year, is seeking to trim its workforce by half.

 
The company says it is encouraging 15,000 workers to go on unpaid leave varying from three to five years. Air India, which has fleet of 145 aircrafts and 33,000 employees, has one of the highest staff-to-aircraft ratios of any airline in the world.
