Harry Porter's Desi Date

By:

You can't get away from them - not even if you are Harry Potter! The latest film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire has two Asian girls in it - Shefali Chowdhury and Afshan Azad, both Bangladeshis, living in London. They play Pravati and Padma Patil, the dates of Harry

and his best friend Ron for a ball. In the book the girls are supposed to be twins and that launched a major hunt in schools in the Bradford area, but no Asian twins were found. Chowdhury and Azad were found in two different schools and thrust into stardom. One can be sure the lines at the movie theaters will be even longer than usual and loaded with South Asians. They'll probably he hoping that J.K.Rowling will somehow build India into the pages of the next blockbuster. Or better still transform Harry Potter into Harry Potel.
