California police have closed in on Sukhwinder Singh Grewal, 41, and Amrik Singh, 27, who they allege masterminded almond heists that had California abuzz for this past year.
Over a period of 18 months, 14 truckloads of almonds valued at $2 million were stolen from Central Valley, which produces almost 80 percent of the world's almonds.
In one especially audacious robbery, tractor-trailer rigs with 40-foot containers, each holding 44,000 pounds of nuts, were stolen as they awaited shipment to the Port of Oakland.
Grewal, owner of Sona Spice Imports, a grocery wholesaler, is charged with selling the nuts in unmarked boxes to stores in California and Canada.
Thankfully, they weren't churning them all into barfi.
