Artcurial, one of France's leading auction houses, is conducting the country's first auction of modern and contemporary Indian art.
The auction ranges from, upcoming artists, such as Ryas Kumu, whose Karachi Series is projected to fetch from $700 to $900, to such masters as S.H. Raza, whose 1984 acrylique Rajasthan (1984) is projected to sell for almost $750,000. Raza, who was born in India in 1922 and has lived in France since the 1950's, was the first Indian artist whose painting sold for $1 million.
