South Asians are the targets of one in eight racially motivated hate crimes in Canada, according to a study by Statistics Canada. Almost half the racial hate crimes were targeted against blacks and 13 percent against South Asians.
Nearly two thirds of all hate crimes motivated by religion were targeted against Jews, while 21 percent targeted Muslims. Hate crimes accounted for one per cent of all crimes in Canada in 2006.
