Moni began construction of the monument five years ago, importing marble and granite from Italy and diamonds from Belgium. A spokesman for the Indian High Commission told the media, "You can't just go and copy historical monuments... This is a protected site we are talking about."
Moni said he wants to make the monument accessible, "Everyone dreams about seeing the Taj Mahal but very few Bangladeshis can make the trip because it's too expensive for them."
