Three teenagers ejected from a New Jersey ballpark for failing to stand during the singing of “God Bless America” are suing the minor league Newark Bears for violating their constitutional rights.
High school seniors Nilkumar Patel and Bryce Gadye, both 17, and junior Shaan Mohammad Khan, 16 claim they were threatened by the league’s president Thomas Cetnar, who yelled, “Nobody sits during the singing of ‘God Bless America’ in my stadium. Now the get the (expletive) out of here.”
Gadye’s father Ross Gadye, who is representing the kids, says, “I think what makes it so horrible is that they were publicly humiliated for exercising a right that was guaranteed to them by the United States Constitution.”
