A Hindu group is preparing to launch a new soft drink made from cow’s urine.
Gau Jal, currently undergoing laboratory tests, is made of cow’s urine mixed with aloe vera and gooseberry and is being touted as a treatment for diabetes and cancer.
Many Hindus believe that cow urine has medicinal properties and some drink it during religious festivals. “Cow urine offers a cure for around 70 to 80 incurable diseases like diabetes. All are curable by cow urine,” says Om Prakash, head of the RSS Cow Protection Department, in Hardwar, which is launching the product.
Prakash told the London Times: “Don’t worry, it won’t smell like urine and will be tasty too. Its USP (unique selling proposition) will be that it’s going to be very healthy. It won’t be like carbonated drinks and would be devoid of any toxins.” Before you throw up, know this: urine from female cows reportedly contains taurine, an amino acid that is found in energy drinks like Monster and Red Bull.
