Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani has been tapped by the Indian government to head the Unique Identification Authority of India, which aims to implement a national ID card.
Nilekani, 54, will hold cabinet rank as head of the agency tasked with issuing identification cards to almost 1 billion Indians, to facilitate the efficient delivery of public and private financial services. The agency expects to issue 100 million ID cards over the next three years.
