Nearly half of America’s top 50 venture-funded companies have immigrant founders, and Indians top the list, according to a report by the National Foundation for American Policy, a policy research group.
“Start-up businesses are the lifeblood of the US economy,” according to the report Immigrant Founders and Key Personnel in America’s 50 Top Venture-Funded Companies. “Nearly half of America’s top 50 ventured backed companies and 75% of the US leading cutting-edge companies have been led by immigrants.”
“The most common country of origin for an immigrant founder of a Top 50 venture-backed company was India, followed by Israel, Canada, Iran and New Zealand.”
The study underscores a separate study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, which found that “Immigrants were more than twice more likely to start businesses each month in 2010 than were the native-born.”
