Bullying Mother In Laws, Beware

A British court has ordered Dalbir Kaur Bhakar to pay $65,000 to her former daughter-in-law, Gina Satvir Singh, for physical and mental abuse.

Singh, who married Bhakar's son Hardeep Bhakar, charged that her mother-in-law who lived with the couple in East London, kept her a virtual prisoner and forced her to perform "excessive and unnecessary" demeaning chores, including cleaning the toilet without a brush.

Singh, now divorced, alleged that she was cut off from her family, had her telephone calls monitored and was forced to cut her hair over her religious objections, Bhakar denies the allegations and plans to appeal.
