India's national field hockey team is protesting at being overshadowed by the country's cricketers.

Team coach Joaquim Carvalho says his team was angry at being "treated like orphans" and several players and team officials threatened to go on hunder strike.

The hockey team won the men's field hockey Asia Cup recently title beating South Korea 7-2.

But that victory didn't got scant attention or the cash awards compared to the hoopla over the cricket team's winning the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.

The cricket team was awarded $2 million in cash awards. Since the criticism became public, the State Bank of India and several state and central government agencies have stepped up to award cash prizes to the hockey players.
