Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra is exempted from security checks at Indian airports, but not the military chiefs of the Indian army, air force and the navy.

The aviation ministry rejected their exemption request out of concern that it would "lead to similar demands from some other authorities."

Beyond Vadra, other VIPs exempt from the security check, include the president, prime minister, cabinet ministers, supreme court judges, chief ministers of the states, foreign ambassadors and the Dalai Lama.
