A 34-year-old married Indian American service station owner, Manishkumar Patel, of Appletown, Wisc., has been charged with attempted murder of an unborn child by lacing his pregnant girlfriend's smoothie with an abortion pill to induce a miscarriage.

Police say Patel slipped the drug RU-486 in Darshana Patel's drink. Her suspicions aroused after she noticed powder on the cup, Patel, who is a family physician, had the drink tested, which confirmed the presence of the abortion pill. Patel, who has a three-year-old son with her boyfriend of six years, miscarried twice this year and suspects he laced her food with the drug in both miscarriages.

Court records show that Darshana Patel took out a home loan to buy a house for her boyfriend, making monthly mortgage payments of $3,800. Mainishkumar who filed for divorce from his wife Falguni Patel on Nov 13 has been released on a $750,000 bond.
