A US court has ordered India to pay $42.4 million in back real estate taxes on a 26-storey building occupied by its United Nations diplomatic staff in New York.
US District Court Judge Jed S Rakoff ruled on Monday that under Vienna conventions, only the residence of head of the mission, not of the diplomatic staff, is exempt from taxes. The judge also ordered Mongolia to pay $4.3 million and the Philippines $10.9 million.
