The Maharashtra government is proposing to build a giant statue of the 17th century Maratha warrior king Shivaji on Marine Drive, off the Mumbai coast, to rival the Statue of Liberty.

The 305 ft statue (taller than the Statue of Liberty) is proposed on a man-made Liberty style island, and will feature a library, a museum and an amphitheatre, at a cost of $25 million.
