Mumbai and Delhi will displace Mexico City and New York as the second and third largest megacities in the world by 2025, according to a United Nations estimate. They are currently ranked fifth and sixth largest cities in the world. Tokyo will retain its top rank and Kolkata will keep its rank as eight largest city. Six more cities in the world, including Chenna, will for the first time enter the megacities list, comprising of cities with populations greater than 10 million.
