The U.S. Army is offering a fast tracking citizenship program to lure temporary immigrants into the army.

The new recruitment program targets immigrants who have lived in the U.S. for at least two years, who can secure citizenship in just six months after starting service.

The pilot fast track citizenship program is open to 1,000 temporary immigrants who are medical professionals and those with language expertise in Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Igbo,Kurdish, Nepalese, Pashto, Russian and Tamil.

If the pilot program is successful, the Army hopes to recruit almost 14,000 temporary immigrants, or 17% of the total, every year.
