| A veteran Edison police officer who berated a superior for refusing to help him rescue Indians in a car crash will not be disciplined for insubordination. Joseph Kenney accused his superior officer, Sgt. Alex Galinsky, of being “derelict” and “negligent” for refusing to assist in the crash, after Galinsky allegedly said, “there’s dirty ... Indians in the car, and I’m not going in there.” Two Rutgers graduate students, Amarinder Cheema and Karan Bhandari, both 24, died, in the car crash. The Edison Police Department filed charges against Kenney for insubordination, when he told Galinsky, “You were derelict in your duties, not only as a sergeant, but as a human being by not trying to save those men.” At a hearing, the case was thrown out, because the complaint was filed too late. According to Edison Chief of Police Thomas Bryan, an investigation did not find any fault with Galinsky’s actions, but the Edison Police Benevolent Association said it has dismissed him from the union. |
