Exit polls from the 2008 election show that South Asians matched African Americans in their fervor for Barack Obama.

A poll released by the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund found that 93% of all South Asians voted for Obama, the highest among all Asian American groups, and almost matching the 95% support he enjoyed among African Americans. Bangladeshi voters edged out African American voters in their support for Obama with 97%. Among other South Asians, 94% of Pakistanis and 91% of Indians voted for Obama.

Obama has been liked by many Indians, Pakistanis, African Americans, and Bangladeshis because each group feels Obama will make a difference for us. Obama has traveled to Indonesia which faces as much poverty as India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. We feel like he is one of us. We both are different. Obama and I are alike.
