Hindi, Arabic and Chinese scripts can now be used in Website domain names.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the official body that oversees Internet addresses, has approved the use of 16 non-Latin scripts in domain monikers.

Domain names have been limited to 37 characters - the 26 characters (A-Z) in the English alphabet, 10 numerals (0-9) and the hyphen - thereby forcing non English users to type English characters to access Web pages served in local languages.

Starting next year, however, multilingual suffixes can be used, although non-English versions of .com and .org will not be permitted.
