Indians have the third highest incidence of tuberculosis in the United States among foreign-born groups, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

America’s TB rate declined 11 percent in 2009, the steepest decline in 50 years. Total TB cases in the United States dropped to 11,540 in 2009 from 12,904 in 2008. Nearly 60 percent of the cases were among immigrants.

Just four countries accounted for half the TB cases among the foreign born.
