A New York Indian convicted of setting a limousine on fire, has been linked by a DNA test to a decade old unsolved rape of a New York University law student.

Rajeev Kumar’s DNA, collected after his conviction, was matched with that collected from a rape kit from the victim 10 years earlier.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said: “DNA evidece brings life to cold cases and delivers justice for victims, like the one in this case, who believe their cases may never be solved.”

According to the DA’s office DNA evidence has been used to sole nearly 9,500 crimes in the city in recent years.
