The number of Indians granted student visas in Australia has dropped by over half this year. Indian student visas declined to 29,721 this year, against 65,503 in 2008-09.

Overall, the number of international student visas dropped 16 percent. Matt McGowan, Victorian secretary of the National Tertiary Education Union, expressed concern that the drop had “very real potential to undermine the financial viability of some of our universities and other education providers”.
