Mumbai University has dropped a Booker Prize shortlisted novel by celebrated author Rohinton Mistry from its syllabus following objections and threats by Shiv Sena workers angry with “derogatory” references to the party in Such a Long Journey.

Mistry denounced the university for “succumbing to political pressure,” adding that that move was a “sorry spectacle of book-burning.”

Shiv Sena has a long history of threats, intimidation, and getting away with all kinds of crimes.
What is really astonishing is that the Vice Chancellor gave in to the threats of a 20 year old from this political party who burned the book and threatened the author with death had he been present. The books was removed from the syllabus overnight, and just before midterm exams!!
Doesn\'t say much about freedom of thought or expression in India, and says even less about the caliber of a university which allows this to happen.
