Krishna’s Portuguese Faux Pas

It wasn’t an entirely “happy coincidence” for India’s external affairs minister SM Krishna, who mistakenly began reading aloud the speech of the Portuguese foreign minister Luis Amado at a UN Security Council meeting before being corrected by India’s UN envoy.

 
Krishna apparently did not recognize he was reading from the wrong speech as the openings mostly involve pleasantries. Krishna said, “On a more personal note, allow me to express my profound satisfaction regarding the happy coincidence of having two members of the Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), Brazil and Portugal, together here today.”

Krishna apparently mixed up the English translation of Portuguese foreign minister’s speech, who had just preceded him.
